Hello everyone!!! Your favorite Queen is back!!! It’s been eight days since my last post and I have missed all of you!!! The moment you were all waiting for is here!!! My review on Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas!!!
There are some spoilers…so be warned!!!
This book made me say OMG from the first 50 pages so you can only imagine what came after that…utter chaos!!!!! So the book starts with Aelin and her court on Terassen soil trying to convince the other Lords that she is the rightful queen and ask for they support on the war with Erawan…but things don’t go as planned. Aelin is banished from the capital and is on her way to Skull’s Bay where the Pirate Lord who rules owns a life debt to Celaena Sardothien!!
In Morath, Erawan orders a legion on Yellowlegs witches with the help of Manon and the Thirteen to sack Rithfold and kill Dorian. Manon is too late to save the city of total destruction but saves Dorian from another witch by killing her!!! Rowan helps Dorian escape but not before trying to kill Manon…he is stopped by Dorian!!!!
Have I ever told you how much I love Manon?? Well she is my favorite character and I LOVE her!!! She is all badass on the outside but she does have a heart on the inside, a heart she recently learned to embrace!!
So Dorian is safe with Rowan and Manon goes back to face the consequences of killing a witch. The punishment: Death but not for her…for Asterin her Second. Manon decides to deliver the final blow herself to show respect for her Second but at the last moment she attacks her Grandmother…and I’m like WHAT THE HELL???? But this scene was my favorite !!! Manon and her Grandmother fighting and Manon learns some pretty socking news….she leaves with Abraxos and with many injuries…My hear just broke…
But after that encounter Manon starts to reevaluate her life, her decisions and her alliances. For me this book was a lot about Manon, like she finally managed to break her Grandmothers power over her and realize that she is stronger without her…She and her Thirteen!!! Just look at this fan art…I died!!!!!!!
“She wasn’t fine, not even close. But she wasn’t dead. And that was a start.”
So Aelin and her friends are essentially in the middle of a war fighting one battle after another while they are searching for an ancient lock to help them with the Wyrdkeys and trying to make alliances. The book has many POVs and I really enjoined seeing things from many perspectives!
Eldile is also making her own journey to find Aelin and is soon joined by Lorcan. As we saw more clearly in this book Elide is quite cunning and good at lying for someone who has spent 10 years locked up. I kind of found that trait of her admirable. The relationship between those wasn’t one of my favorite things in this book…but I can’t say I paid them much attention until the end of the book.
Dorian has lost everything on this book as his throne is taken by Erawan. He starts to learn more about his magic and how to use it and he actually fights with magic on battle! I had a feeling that sometimes Dorian was a little submissive to Aelin when you think that is a King of his own!! But I loved the moment he finally makes it clear that he can take his own decisions. GO DORIAN!!!!
“Nameless is my price.”
Another relationship was between Aedion and Lysandra it is a hesitant kind of relationship but as we see Aedion is willing to wait for her as long as it takes!!! How romantic??? Just so you know I was shipping them already since the Queen of Shadows and I have faith (LOTS of faith) that they will find a way!!! And did I tell you that Aedion has other problems too? Like let’s say…this Father!!! The legendary Fae Warrior who is blood-sworn to Maeve…Yes that’s Aedion’s father, send by Meave to kill Lorcal…and let me tell you their relationship is a bit…rocky!!!
I am going to talk about the end of the book but I won’t spoiler anything, I promise!!! We finally have all the answers that where left unanswered through the entire series. In the end the final battle is between Aelin, her court and Meave. Yes remember the bitch who is Aelin’s aunt? That’s who I’m talking about. We see Aelin use her powers and I’m talking about REAL, overwhelming power that is a bit too much even for Aelin herself. Thank god there is Rowan to ground her and remind her how to control her powers! And finally Terassen find the allies needed to win the war in the faces of Celaena’s former friends and the Prince of Wendlyn, Galan Ashryver!!! I don;t know why but I have a tiny specialplace in my heart for Galan and I would like to see more of him in the final book!!
And since I stumbled upon this gif that expresses exactly how I feel after reading this book here….
“Aelin Galathynius had raised an army not just to challenge Morath, but to rattle the stars.”
